After the incredible run of the 2000 Pride Openweight Grand Prix, Pride 9 kicked off in June of 2000 with a run-of-the-mill fight card, which featured fighters such as Vitor Belfort, Igor Vovchanchyn, Ricco Rodriguez, and Carlos Newton.
In an interesting footnote, UFC veteran Matt Serra was set to appear on this card, but a pyrotechnics accident forced his opponent out of the fight, preventing his own participation.
