Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia

Fedor Emelianenko defeats Tim Sylvia via Submission at 0:36 of Round 1

Prior to his fight with Tim Sylvia for the WAMMA Heavyweight Championship in the first-ever MMA event of the now-defunct Affliction promotion, Russian heavyweight phenom Fedor Emelianenko—although undefeated—had been criticized for over a year do to his lack of fights against top quality competition. Emelianenko shut all the critics up—at least temporarily—with a first-round demolition of the former UFC Heavyweight Champion in this fast encounter from Affliction: Banned.

“Every fight I’m in,” Sylvia said before the fight, “I just have this will that I do not want to lose no matter what. I’m looking to hurt Fedor.” “Whatever I do, I just try to think about good things, and that helps me,” Emelianenko said. Sylvia made his way to the ring first, followed by Emelianenko. McCarthy: “He is absolutely the most dominant man that has ever been in mixed martial arts.” Unfortunately for fans in attendance, one of the most anticipated MMA events of the summer was also one of the shortest, as Emelianenko stunned Sylvia early into the first round before taking him to the ground and sinking in the fight-ending Rear Naked Choke just 36 seconds into the fight.

After dispatching of a former UFC Heavyweight Champion with such ease, Emelianenko had once again firmly established himself as the undisputed greatest heavyweight fighter on the planet. Info by tapology
